DELIGHTING IN THE EVERYDAY
Pablo Picasso once said: "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary!" And I agree. As a painter I collect visual impressions from the every day people and places around me. I then mull over this trove, sifting what I respond to for personal significance, for beauty in it's various forms, and for glimmers of meaning. In my artwork I condense what I have seen into painted stories, or visual poems, whose themes search for value in who we are and in what we have been given. At its heart, art captures the truths of both alluring and difficult moments and transforms them so they can be contemplated and held.
My formative art years were spent in Europe. During the 38 years I lived in Germany I experienced the excitement and broadening of perspective that comes through participation in international art events. My work was exhibited in over 100 solo and group shows in 9 different countries. In 2020 I returned to my hometown roots in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota, where I continue to capture and paint the significance, beauty and meaning, of the people and places around me.
