THE SPECTACULARITY OF THE ORDINARY

My art has always been about what I see around me: the colors, forms and movements, of everyday people and familiar places. As a painter I collect visual impressions and mull over them, looking for beauty, significance and a meaning that has a tinge of the universal to it.  I then begin to paint, transforming what I have seen into visual poems or stories, which value who we are and what we have been given. I understand what Pablo Picasso once said, "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary!" Art makes it possible for us to capture the allure of experienced moments and to transform them into something that can be saved, treasured and contemplated.

My formative art years were spent in Europe. During the 38 years I lived in Germany I had the joy and excitement of exhibiting my paintings internationally in over 100 solo and group exhibitions in 9 countries. (See "About Me" on this site.) In 2020 I returned to the everyday spectacularity of my Minnesota hometown of Minneapolis/St. Paul, where I continue to paint the beauty, significance and meaning, of the  people and places I experience around me.
