The five trees in this painting draw us in to the flowing river scene because they are so close to us. We feel like we could actually sit down among them and enjoy the freshness of the early morning air. The day is just beginning and all things are yet possible. The powerful presence of nature has an amazing way of bringing perspective to the changeableness of our other worlds. The continual flowing of the river is a constant.
I discovered these five trees near a river in Birkeland, Norway. They represent three different varieties of trees growing along that path. Some are fast growing, others have been there for a long time. The mix of vegetation in an area partially determines it's unique character. On my early morning walk I was able to hear the lapping water, the calls of the birds and the wind in the trees. So refreshing! It felt like a place I would want to repeatedly visit! As an artist I knew that my obvious solution was to paint the scene for repeated visits in my home!
